One of the major printing developments of the 19th Century
was the introduction of colour printing techniques. Not surprisingly,
many major shipping companies were quick to seize this new
and relatively inexpensive means of advertising. Travel Agents
offices displayed large colour posters extolling the delights
of ocean travel. Leading artists were engaged to produce larger
than life studies of the great liners.
The
years between 1920 and the outbreak of the 2nd World War are
now regarded as the Golden Age of Travel. Today, the posters
and postcards of that almost forgotten era are rare and costly.
For
the last 19 years Marine Art Posters have been researching
the history of marine art and now, as the worlds leading publisher
of the original material, in conjunction with the Cunard Line
Limited, are proud to present this unrivalled collection of
quality posters and goods, some of which have only ever been
sold on board the QE2.
